10 Years of Giving Back: A Look at BetterWorld’s Charity Work

May 23, 2017

BetterWorld Telecom (BWT) has been dedicated to being America’s leading B2B, full-service, sustainable communications provider since 2003.

In fact, as a B Corporation, improving the environment and our communities is one of our top priorities.

Our Last 10 Years of Making a BetterWorld

Let’s look back at some of our favorite community-focused activities from the last decade:

2007

In April, we launched the BetterBlog to cover tips on sustainable communication services and our charitable activities.

In August, BWT became the first Carbon Neutral Telecom Carrier in North America.

2008

We participated in a March panel discussion at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) to prepare students for building financially successful, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable enterprises.

BWT flew to Berlin in November to speak at the Green Telecom Summit.

2009

In the first month of the year, we hit a big goal: Serve at least 500 DC-based customers and partners fighting for social and environmental issues.

Over the summer, we traveled to the George Washington Memorial Parkway to rid the area of non-native species.

2010

In August, we were approved as a carrier for the California Teleconnect Fund to offer qualifying nonprofits a 50% discount on many commercial telecommunications services.

BetterWorld Telecom was featured in the first national ad campaign about Certified B Corporations for meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance.

2011

We celebrated Earth Day by building green houses with Habitat for Humanity.

In July, we teamed up with TechSoup Global to provide nonprofits with highly discounted audio conferencing service.

2012

During a week in February, we volunteered at Glide Memorial Church to feed more than 500 people.

We became members of The Hub to support more than 25 inspiring organizations working to improve the Bay Area environment.

2013

We traveled to the Sustainable Business Council in July to speak about the important role businesses have in supporting a just and sustainable economy.

BWT began working with the Salvation Army to optimize the organization’s telecommunication services.

2014

To kick off the new year, we launched our Five Customer Promises initiative to demonstrate our commitment to the environment, our communities, and our customers.

We donated a year of free phone services to the Full Circle Fund, a network of professionals leveraging time, talent, and connections to help nonprofit organizations.

2015

In March, we sponsored the Spring Benefit of the Catholic Coalition for Special Education.

For the fifth consecutive year, we sponsored a hole at the IREM Annual Charity Golf Tournament to support organizations like American Heart Association, Autism Speaks, and Boys Hope Girls Hope.

2016

Near the beginning of the year, BetterWorld Telecom donated seats and phones to Red Mountain Park, a nonprofit urban park development, to use during their Thanks-A-Thon.

We started sponsoring America’s Future Workforce to help provide economic opportunities to underserved individuals in the DC-Metro area.

2017

We kicked off this year’s volunteering efforts by preparing meals at DC Central Kitchen.
