Employee Morale: How to Improve it and Why

Boosting Workplace Morale at the Office

Your employees are the backbone of your business or nonprofit. Though offering competitive wages is important, it’s not the only factor for attracting the most skilled workers. Employees care about more than just salary when looking for the right fit. Some strongly value a work environment that allows them to have a nice work-life balance (head here for Tech Tips for Work-Life Balance). When it comes to improving office morale, these benefits can help keep your current employees happy and more productive, leading to employee retention and attracting more of the right people.

Flexible Hours and Work-from-Home Days

Some employers underestimate how important flexible hours and work-from-home days are to employees. This is a big part of helping employees feel like they have a good work-life balance. After all, work-life balance is extremely important and good workers know that you can’t burn the candle at both ends. The more flexibility you offer, the better. Some ideas of how to start implementing more flexible benefits include letting your employees pick their own hours, letting employees work 10-hour days instead of 8 and then having Fridays off, and/or letting employees work from home if they don’t have any internal or external meetings that day (Letting employees telecommute can be great for your business. Take a look at our Tips for Having Employees Telecommute to see for yourself).

Get the Right Tech

Technology advancements help people work more efficiently and are involved with a lot of jobs in the workforce today. But what happens when the technology that is supposed to be aiding in people’s success, is actually acting as a hindrance to productivity? Imagine an office setting at 2:30pm. Everyone has already eaten lunch and is falling into the afternoon slump. To top it all off, the Internet connection is acting up and slowing down their workflow. Not only is the Internet connection itself slowing down your workers, but the frustrations it brings leaves them completely unmotivated for the rest of the day.

You may think that mainstream providers are the only option, but you could be paying more for unreliable Internet access. Make sure you’re providing your employees with the tools they need to succeed with fast, affordable Internet solutions.

What’s a business or nonprofit without the people who work to keep it afloat? How do you attract the right types of employees for your company? We’d love to know what you think.
