Back in the Office? Here Are Some Tips On Improving Workplace Productivity

Work productivity is important for getting the most out of your company or nonprofit’s employees. Although you certainly do not want to overwork them, it’s important to provide the right type of environment for your employees to be able to stay focused on the task at hand. Some offices or workspaces are not the ideal setups for fostering productivity. Take a look at a few dos and don’ts of achieving workplace productivity so that your business can thrive.

Let your employees listen to music.

Some might think that music is a distraction to workplace productivity, but studies show otherwise. In fact, The New York Times discusses research done by Teresa Lesiuk, an assistant professor in the music therapy program at the University of Miami. “In one study involving information technology specialists, she found that those who listened to music completed their tasks more quickly and came up with better ideas than those who didn’t, because the music improved their mood.” Music can also help your employees tune out distracting noises during their workday. Overall, headphones at the office are a thumbs up.

Don’t have an open-concept office.

Open-concept offices are extremely distracting. It only takes one person to cut off several people’s train of thought and ruin productivity. While allowing headphones can help, open-concept offices should be avoided. If this is already your setup, try to incorporate some barriers. Add as many conference rooms as you can, along with break rooms that are sectioned off. On top of that, encourage your employees to spread out to these other rooms.

Allow work from home days. Shocker.

Consider letting people work from home when they don’t have any meetings to attend or just telecommuting full time. See why on our blog: Tips for Having Employees Telecommute.

Don’t have a slow Internet connection.

Not only is slow Internet extremely unproductive, but it also causes a lot of frustration. When employees are bogged down with frustration, it stifles creativity and productivity. No matter what your business, fast and reliable Internet is a must. Is it time for an upgrade? Let BetterWorld provide you with the speed and security you’ve been looking for.
