Office parties can be a great way to boost office morale at your company or organization. However, these parties can be consequential to our environment when we have fun in ways that aren’t sustainable. The next time a special occasion is right around the corner at your office, use these tips to make your work party even better by going green!
Ditch the Disposable Dishes
One of the most wasteful things at any party is the disposable dishes and utensils. Among the styrofoam cups and plates, plastic tableware, the aluminum foil, and Saran wrap used to cover our tasty dishes, office parties aren’t a celebration our environment will be enjoying. This is especially true when employees are using separate paper or plastic plates for their entrees and desserts. That’s why it’s important to ditch the disposable dishes at your next work gathering. A helpful tip is to have a “you use it, you wash it” policy in place. This way everyone will be responsible for cleaning their own dishes and there won’t be a mess left behind from the festivities.
It’s a Wrap for Wrapping Paper
For birthdays, office anniversaries, holidays, and work promotions, presents are a normal part of the celebration. However, wrapping paper can be extremely wasteful and bad for the environment. To combat this problem, say “it’s a wrap for wrapping paper!” Instead, use reusable boxes and gift bags. You can even have a collection that your company can consistently use. For workplaces that like to joke around, your reusable bags collection can feature fun and wacky slogans or characters on them.
Don’t Forget to Recycle
Sometimes recycling bins can be left out of the office and this is a problem we should all fix even before your next office get together. Having a designated bin for recyclables is simple and can make a big difference when it comes to office parties because of all the bottles and cans that accumulate.
