We are excited to be one of the organizations signed on to Seattle’s Mayoral Walk Bike Ride Challenge – right in tune with BetterWorld’s BetterWork framework: less car commuting, air travel, building space – the WBR Challenge puts alternatives to commuting as a top priority for the Seattle Metro Area – click here for more background on the program.
BetterWorld was one of a number of for profits and non profits signed on to the month-long challenge, and here is the blog post from BetterWorld President, Matt Bauer as part of BetterWorld’s pledge in action, commuting by bike and rail from Seattle to Portland for a meeting – click here for the post.
What is Walk Bike Ride? From the WBR website: “We are at a turning point in transportation. We cannot sustain the financial, environmental and health costs of a transportation system that is overly reliant on automobiles. We need a new balanced approach that creates a transition. We are prepared to commit to that path by prioritizing walking, biking and transit in how we use our streets, how we spend our dollars, and how we collaborate with county, state and federal governments.
Walk Bike Ride will: ****
- Create an equitable transportation system for all by providing more affordable travel choices
- Focus on the places where people want to be and add qualities that make them want to stay
- Prioritize right-of-way space to emphasize walking, biking and riding”
Keep on ridin'!!
In Service,
Gina
