If you have been lucky enough to see Food, Inc. at the movie theaters, then you need look no further for a solution to the myriad of problems affecting our national food system than Seattle-based PCC Natural Food Markets. We were fortunate to visit yesterday with PCC, truly one of Seattle’s great treasures for over 55 years.
PCC Natural Markets began as a food-buying club of 15 families in 1953. Today, it’s the largest consumer-owned natural food co-operative in the United States.
PCC has nine stores in the Puget Sound region and is owned by nearly 40,000 members who shop (along with thousands of non-members) in their neighborhood locations.
The main tenants promoted and valued by PCC include: Advocating high-quality food standards; Supporting local, sustainable agriculture; Educating consumers about timely issues; Operating in an environmentally friendly way; and Building community.
A big shout out to Gary DeBoer, PCC Director of Information Technology, for spending time with us and exploring ways that we could possibly work together down the road. For more information on PCC: www.pccnaturalmarkets.com
Best regards,
Matt
