Yesterday we had great meetings with both the Federal Communications Commission and The Wilderness Society, discussing BetterWork concepts and benefits for both the greater good and for individual organizations.
We have been invited to participate in the FCC’s ongoing Workshop Series , which is bringing forward information and specific areas of focus, culminating in the National Broadband Plan. The goal of the Broadband Plan is to “seek to ensure that all people of the United States have access to broadband capability and shall establish benchmarks for meeting that goal.”
Specifically, we will be participating in the Energy, Environment, and Transportation Workshop to be held at the FCC on August 25th – The goal of this workshop is to identify potential impacts of a National Broadband Plan on Energy, the Environment, and Transportation and to explore how the broadband and communications infrastructure can play a transformative role in meeting our national energy, environmental, and transportation goals. A big shout out to Nick Sinai, who is organizing this workshop and is facilitating BetterWorld’s participation.
Later in the day, we had the fortune to meet with The Wilderness Society and begin discussions as to how our BetterWork concepts and BetterWorld’s services might be able to help TWS achieve some of their operational and environmental goals. TWS has an amazing history and has been critical to our national discussion around nature and the environment since 1935. TWS has led the conservation movement in wilderness protection, writing and passing the landmark Wilderness Act and winning lasting protection for 107 million acres of Wilderness, including 56 million acres of spectacular lands in Alaska, eight million acres of fragile desert lands in California and millions more throughout the nation. Thanks to David Moulton, Director of Climate Policy and Conservation Funding, for his time and consideration of BetterWorld as a possible downstream partner for TWS.
Sustainable in D.C.,
Matt
