We have been spending more time and energy in Sacramento lately, and are particularly excited about the Sacramento Sustainability Forum that we have put together with Rick Noss of Greenvision and Sacramento Green Drinks. We’ve got a great line up of speakers for the next four months, with David Mogavero, Senior Principal Mogavero Notestine Associates kicking it off for us. Valley Vision has partnered with us as the forum lines right up with the goals of their Green Capital Alliance project. Other supporters include Environmental Council of Sacramento (ECOS), Sacramento Sustainable Business program (BERC), and BALLE.
Sacramento is home to many important non-profit organizations with social and environmental missions. This week’s visits include United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Sacramento and the Sacramento Tree Foundation. UCP of Greater Sacramento is the leading provider of comprehensive services to children and adults with all developmental disabilities and their families. UCP works with 1,700 people a month in their five county area, empowering children and adults who, without support, would be isolated from community. Sacramento has perhaps the best urban forest of any city that I’ve visited in California. The Sacramento Tree Foundation leads the efforts to build the best urban forest for the Sacramento region.
They work with community partners and volunteers to bring trees to every neighborhood, business district, park, school and street. Their goal is to support the planting of 5 million new trees in the region by the year 2025. We look forward to supporting both of these excellent organizations.
From California’s Capital,
