“Imagine 1500 passionate people gathering together to change the world. That’s Boot Camp – a fun, intensive one day gathering where people learn how to bring their ideas for stronger communities into reality.”
Salem and I had the great pleasure to serve as volunteers at Craigslist Foundation’s Boot Camp last Saturday. I was there on triple duty representing Full Circle Fund (a community partner), Think Local First (my home NPO), and of course BetterWorld with Craigslist Foundation as one of our newest customers.
During her morning keynote, Ariana Huffington (The Huffington Post) spoke to the value of service and the benefits to the individual who volunteers and supports a cause: perspective, meaning, purpose. It’s a personal pleasure to work for a company that holds volunteerism as a core company value and commitment. I think that implementing employee volunteerism is one of the quickest ways for a company to strengthen its social impact while adding richness and depth to lives of their workforce. Can that translate into improved employee satisfaction and retention, thereby showing a financial return as well? (Sounds like one of the questions we’ll be addressing in the upcoming BetterWork Lunch Forums.)
In Service,
Jacob
