The Sustainable Business Network of Washington (D.C.) keeeps on growing and growing its impact in the Washington, D.C. area and beyond. Formed a number of years ago (BetterWorld participated at the board level early on), SBNOW and its truly fearless leader Pamela Skarda, have now amassed hundreds of businesses, organizations and individuals as members and most recently, as part of Earth Week’s celebration, SB NOW announced that two companies; WGL Holdings, Inc., parent company of Washington Gas Light Company, and Community IT Innovators have earned the organization’s highest level of green certification. They represent the first large (over 250 employees) and small (under 100 employees) businesses to earn this distinction.
In fact, we were at Washington Gas & Light Company’s beautiful HQ in downtown D.C. the other evening for a packed room and we were fortunate to participate panel discussing ways to put green IT to use in lowering organzational footprints. Alongside other panelists from a diverse lot including IBM, Community IT Innovators, and Versant, we had a lively discussion about how organizations can physically lower their IT power, usage and footprints, while also looking at IT and telecom as ways to reduce the overall impacts that their organizations are having on the environment.
As a member and supporter, we look forward to helping however we can as SBNOW continunes to grow both its organization and impact on the D.C. area, great job! For more info: www.sbnow.org
