While BetterWorld focuses on creating change at a national and global level, BetterWorld employees also give 1-2 or more days of volunteer time to support their local community. I’ve been putting my local time and energy into the formation of Think Local First—a soon to be non-profit and BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) network—serving on the board as the Community Development Coordinator. Matt is on the board of BALLE, and I caught the “Think Local” bug as soon as I learned what this movement is about and got involved.
I’ve described Think Local First as the center of the wheel of our local community, connecting all of the spokes to facilitate sustainability projects, thriving relationships, and pride in place for Western Nevada County. The result will be triple bottom line returns: keeping more dollars with local business and agriculture, supporting the health and quality of life of our residents, and creating a positive environmental and agricultural impact.
One of our first areas of focus is supporting local agriculture and restaurants and we will be holding a meet and greet and local food festival this spring and summer. The support for these events has been fantastic and we’re thrilled to support this vital relationship. Fore more information: www.localfirstsierra.org
Lots more to come!
Locally,
