As part of the opening of our new Portland, OR office – we had a wave of new meetings in the past few weeks and were fortunate to stop by and meet with the folks at New Seasons Market, based in the Portland Metro area.
We first read about New Seasons in the Marketing That Matters book, written by fellow SVN members Chip Conley and Eric Friedenwald-Fishman, published by Berrett Koehler with support from the Social Venture Network.
New Seasons is passionate about the Portland community. That’s one of the reasons they give first preference to local growers, fishers, farmers and ranchers. It’s also why they have chosen to take a proactive role in everything from the health of our food supply and those who consume it, to the health of our environment and those who reside in it. New Seasons Market donates 10 percent of our after-tax profits to nonprofit (501 c3) organizations in the Portland area and greatest attention is given to organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry, educating our youth and improving the environment.
A common theme running through many New Seasons employees is their enthusiasm for giving back to the neighborhoods they serve. One of the organizations they have a particular fondness for is Loaves & Fishes, The Meals-On-Wheels People (similar to Food & Friends, which BetterWorld helps support in the Metro DC area). Each of their stores has a different delivery route lined up and volunteers get together weekly to bring food and conversation to seniors in the community. Over the past seven years, their daily donations to Loaves & Fishes have added up to over $86,000.
If you live or are in the the Portland area, stop by one of their nine stores and see for yourself their amazing commitment and great products – click here for more info.
