Last week we had the pleasure to visit with Mercy Corps out at the their Global Headquarters in beautiful Portland, OR – – where we have just setup BetterWorld’s Northwest operations at the downtown World Trade Center. We have provided services to Mercy Corps in their DC and Gulf Coast locations for some years and have always marveled at how one organization can have so much impact.
Our meeting this time reinforced our view as Mercy Corps has done anything but sit still in recent years, continuing to innovate and find solutions for helping alleviate poverty, tragedies and enabling people across the world to access tools to help make their lives more rich and fulfilling. Over the past 30 years, they have worked on relief and development, and have continually refined their approach – – in 2007 alone, their programs (which include child survival, short-term employment, microfinance, HIV/AIDs, nutrition, and disaster relief), reached 16.4 million people in more than 35 countries, and delivered $223 million in support and services.
